A street kid has been shot dead by a security guard at the premises of a petrol station in Yei during the small hours of the night.

Yei River County Crime Officer Martin Izzy told radio Easter over the phone that the kid aged 12 was trying to break into the petrol station assisted by a colleague at 2 AM.

He added that a security guard shot him dead when he climbed up a wall to remove a lamp-globe.

His companion is under police custody.

Mr Izzy said the guard was on a security mission at the patrol station.

He added that investigations are underway to find out whether the guard acted correctly by shooting the deceased.

Mr Izzy appealed to parents to take care of their children so that they do not go to streets where they can have problems.

This was the first time a street kid was shot dead in Yei.
