South Sudan has denied that there are Darfur rebels taking sanctuary in the country.

The Government of Khartoum filed a complaint at the UN Security Council saying that a JEM military convoy carrying weaponry and rebel fighters entered South Sudan on Wednesday.

Army spokesman Colonel Phillip Aguer denied accusations that 350 JEM members crossed into South Sudan.

He said Khartoum’s allegations are a cover-up for its hostilities against South Sudan.

Col. Aguer said South Sudan asked the UN to establish and monitor a buffer zone between Sudan and South Sudan to control the borders.

The army spokesperson said any military convoy would leave its prints on the ground and the UN should visit the area to verify Khartoum’s claims.

The allegation comes just days after Khartoum military killed JEM leader Ibrahim Khalil.
