Radio stations should be instruments at the service of unity, peace and development.

Catholic Bishop Barani Eduardo Hiiboro of Tombura-Yambio made this statement yesterday during the inauguration of Radio Anisa in Yambio.

The bishop blessed and dedicated the diocesan radio station to St. Gabriel the Archangel.

Bishop Hiiboro encouraged the staff from both Radio Anisa and Yambio FM to love their job and run around like bees to collect sweet information for the support of society.

Western Equatoria deputy governor Sapana Abui said information is power and all radio stations operating in the state need to educate the listeners with relevant information to avoid the spread of rumours.

Fr. Ignatius Mborihenga, who runs Radio Anisa, said the Catholic station wants to contribute towards unity and the spiritual welfare of its listeners through good information and civic education.

He added that Radio Anisa will foster integral human development and respect for human rights, paying special attention to the illiterate and vulnerable groups by using local languages in addition to English and Arabic.

Radio Anisa forms the Catholic Radio Network with another seven stations across South Sudan and one in Nuba Mountains, Sudan.
