Polygamy is contributing for the spread of sexual transmitted diseases in Tonj South County, Warrap State.

Francis Kilingjui, a clinical official working for In Deed and Truth Ministries, told Radio Don Bosco that STDs, that is sexual transmitted diseases, are spreading rapidly among partners because most men have many wives.

He said if a person is infected with a STD, he or she will spread to others through sexual intercourse.

He explained that health officials have always to tell those infected to bring to the clinic all their partners or co-wives to receive treatment.

Dr Kilingjui said syphilis and gonorrhoea are the common STDs in Tonj South, but there are also HIV AIDS cases although the clinic does not have means to test for it.

The doctor appealed to the patients to seek medical attention whenever they feel signs and symptoms like fever and headache which are common for malaria in order to save lives.
