A lawmaker has appealed to governments to take quick and tough action against criminals in order to avoid recycling conflicts in Kapoeta East County, Eastern Equatoria.
Benjamin Lopeyok, a member of Eastern Equatoria state Assembly for Kapoeta East, made the appeal following the recent killing of a man and abduction of his two children in Mogos Payam, Radio Emmanuel reported.The dead man, identified as Lokwanyite Lorumot Lomunyo, was returning from his garden with two children, a daughter and a son.
Mr. Lopeyok said the suspects have not been identified but their footprints show the involvement of four people who ran towards Jie payam.
He said Jie members had earlier attacked and killed one man and injured another.
The Jie commuity fled to Boma, in Jonglei state, during the civil war, but were forced to return last year to Eastern Equatoria.
Mr. Lopeyok noted that the Jie live peacefully with their neighbours but are provoked when criminal who attack them while passing through the Mogos area.
He advised the youths from Kapoeta East County to be patient as the county and state governments take the responsibility to trace for the suspected criminals.
MPs and members from national and state governments hailing from Kapoeta East County held recently a peace conference to bring harmony between Muraarengani and Longolechum communities.
