Khartoum Monitor is to be revived as Juba Monitor after transferring its assets in order to operate from the capital of South Sudan.

The newspaper’s chief editor Alfred Taban told Bakhita Radio this morning that the daily newspaper would soon be launched in Juba as Juba Monitor.

Mr. Taban explained that the newspaper moved its operations to Juba after the Khartoum authorities closed it on July 8.

He added that the Juba Monitor will be printed in Kampala or Khartoum until it puts in place its own printing facilities in Juba.

Mr. Taban said the market in South Sudan is big enough for the Juba Monitor.

He explained that even when the newspaper was produced in Khartoum, most of it was sold in South Sudan since readers in the Sudan prefer Arabic papers.

He added that the major problem the Juba Monitor faces is the lack of printing facilities in South Sudan.

The Government of South Sudan has an old dream of installing a printing press in Juba for its own needs and to support the private sector

The building is already finished with in the South Sudan TV compound money from the European Union and the Norwegian government.
