The growing violence along the Sudan-South Sudan border in Upper Nile State has forced a prominent humanitarian organisation to withdraw its staff from the area.

Oxfarm withdrew its staff from Upper Nile border towns on Friday following bloody clashes between SPLA and forces loyal to Khartoum.

Hellen Mc Elhinney, Oxfam policy advisor in South Suda, told CRN News that her NGO withdrew their staff from Renk and Jamam and relocated them to Malakal following Friday’s clashes in the area.

She added that there have been Antonov planes flying over Jamam.

She called upon the local authorities and the government of South Sudan to maintain security in the area and refrain from escalating border violence with Sudan.

Ms. Mc Elhinney noted that life saving programmes are still going on in Renk as well as rural water projects.

She said there is an influx of refugees in Maban County from Sudan’s neighbouring troubled states of South Kordofan and Blue Nile.

The UN accused Khartoum of bombarding a refugee camp in Unity State, a move that has escalated tension and violence along the border between the two states.
