The first Governors’ Forum following independence kicked today in Juba under the theme “Strengthening decentralised governance in South Sudan for equitable service delivery and sustainable development.”

The four-day meeting is taking place at the National Legislative assembly.

The minister in the Office of the President, Emmanuel Lowilla, told the participants that the Forum will focus on the priorities set by the South Sudan Development Plan of 2011 to 2013 and tackle the public service reform to improve service delivery.

Mr. Lowilla added that the Forum will also re-evaluate past meetings carried out during the interim period and find measures to improve decentralisation of power in South Sudan.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit presides over the Governors’ Forum.

The governors of Central Equatoria and Upper Nile sent their deputies to the meeting.

The forum was organised by the Office of the President and UNDP.
