Police officers have arrested ten head teachers from the Greater Abang in Yirol West county of Lakes State on Monday for closing down all the schools in the payam.

The teachers closed down the schools after efforts to audit the 2011 registration fees collected by the schools and remitted to the county education office failed.

Ustaz James Mabor Ikau, who is among the arrested teachers, told Good News Radio that the teachers closed the school because they did not get a satisfactory response to a letter they wrote to the county education office asking how the fees money was spent.

Mr. Mabor said the teachers decided to close the schools after the head teachers committee discovered that the official amount of money remitted to the State is less than total amount sent by the schools.

He added that they closed down 11 schools in protest for the decision by the county education director to suspend three head teachers and their deputies considered to be the ringleaders of Greater Abang headmasters.

Mr. Mabor urged the community to remain calm saying the issue will be resolved administratively.

He also called on the senior Education officials in the Ministry of Education to listen to the voices of head teachers and address their grievances in line with the guiding policies in place.

A committee led by Lakes State Director of Education Kongor Deng Kongor was sent to the Greater Abang payam on Wednesday by the ministry of education to investigate the matter.
