The fuel crisis hitting South Sudan has affected electricity supply in Torit town.

Eastern Equatoria state minister for Housing and Public Utility, Mark Akio, told Radio Emmanuel that government does not have enough funds to pay almost 34,000 pounds per month for the fuel needed to run the powerhouse.

The minister said defective lines are also big challenges for the power supply in Torit.

Mr. Akio lamented that the state government could not operate a big generator that it has to supply the entire Torit town, due to lack of transformer to regulate power supply.

He added that the government wants to involve private investors to build a hydro-electricity power dam at Hatire in Ikwotos County to supply the state.

Investors prefer to set up in Torit solar street lamps and a water purification plant.

Eastern Equatoria state is blessed with many natural resources only requiring the development of stable power supply and good road network to promote industry.
