The Catholic Diocese of Torit has formed a Peace and Reconciliation Taskforce to resolve conflicts among the communities in Eastern Equatoria.
Vicar General Celestino Muras announced on Sunday at Our Lady of Assumption parish church that the membership of the taskforce will be made public next Sunday.He said people have been identified already.
He urged the people whose names will appear on the list to accept the appointment to serve in the taskforce.
Fr. Muras said the role of the Church is to emphasize the element of unity, togetherness and love among the people.
He added that it was importance now to seek and respect elders’ wisdom and positions toward issues.
Fr. Muras stressed that the inter-Church peace team on a fact finding mission in Magwi County brought calm and registered positive responses from the Ma’di and Acholi communities.
He said the communities have appealed for a peaceful resolution of the border issue.
Fr. Muras added that both communities have made their positions clear and that they were ready to listen to the inter-Chruch peace team.
