Eastern Equatoria State has terminated the services of a road contractor due to poor workmanship and used the funds to purchase road equipments for the government.

Radio Emmanuel learnt that the state government shortened the contract of World Food Programme/GTZ to construct the Nsitu-Nadapal road.

Norman Charles Gideon, the Director General in the ministry of Roads and Transport, explained the state recovered 2.5 million US Dollars from the contractor, half of the cost of the entire work funded by the Sudan Recovery Fund.

He defended the action of the state government against the contractor saying it was the best option to ensure value for the donor’s funds.

The state purchased two dump tipper Lorries, one roller compactor, one grader, one excavator for 900,000 dollars.

It was not possible to talk with the contractors in order to verify the claims by the Eastern Equatoria state government officials.
