A representative of the Ugandan Embassy in Juba has called on his countrywomen and men to abide by the laws of South Sudan and focus on responsible activities in the hosting country.
Aziz Buwedewo addressed yesterday the Ugandan community in Eastern Equatoria state at a restaurant in Torit, Radio Emmanuel reported.He said the embassy wanted to assist Ugandan citizens acquire legitimate identification documents but warned them against carrying criminal activities in South Sudan.
The political officer in the Ugandan Embassy in Juba advised that members of his country should concentrate on the purpose that brought them to South Sudan and refrain from crime.
David Ariko, another officer in the Ugandan Embassy in Juba, explained that many criminals from neighbouring countries, including Uganda, took advantage of the open borders to turn South Sudan into a hiding ground.
He said theft, robbery and other crimes were not common in South Sudan adding that people here could move with big bundles of money openly, a practice impossible in East Africa.
Joseph Okurut, representative of Ugandan Community in South Sudan, an umbrella organization formed by Ugandans living in the country, lamented that some executive members ran away due to criminal acts.
He said some Ugandans and other foreign nationals damaged the reputation of their countries by tricking South Sudanese through impersonation.
He called on Ugandans to uphold their country by providing legitimate services in South Sudan.
