A public primary school in Rumbek Central County is in dire need of teachers to cope with the huge number of pupils.

Santino Machiek is the Deputy Head Teacher of Matangai Primary School, outside Rumbek. He told Good News Radio that the school has only 12 teachers for over 1,000 pupils.

He called on the ministry of general education to send more teachers to Matangai.

Mr. Machiek asked the local community to mobilize resources in order to build a permanent fence around the school premises.

The deputy head teacher said the school needs a clinic nearby to cater for pupils’ emergencies like malaria.

Almost all schools in South Sudan need more teachers to cater for the growing number of pupils and students.

The President of the Republic, Salva Kiir Mayardit, said his government will train 7,000 teachers within the next five years.
