Tonj Mayor said the shortage of water points in town is the main cause of local violence.

Joseph Anei said that the number of the boreholes does not answer to the needs of the town and leads to competition over water.

He cited the example of the commissioner’s family that was attacked last week by the residents of Achol Manek area.

Mr. Anei said he will not tolerate violence at water points.

He explained that the police will start patrolling borehole areas to avoid further incidences.

Mr. Anei noted that it is the duty of the government to provide enough boreholes to Tonj town.
