The presence of Sudanese forces in Abyei is not allowing people to return to Abyei and surrounding areas and is delaying Dinka Ngok-Misseriya negotiations about this year’s migration.

The UN says in its Sudan Weekly Humanitarian Bulletin that no returns to Abyei town and surrounding areas have been reported due to the continued presence of Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) in Abyei town and other parts of the Abyei area.

The report added that the presence of SAF troops in Abyei has also delayed dialogue between the Dinka Ngok and Misseriya pastoralists that has to take place before the Arab nomads start their annual migration southwards next month.

The Dinka Ngok said they would not discuss this year’s Misseriya migration before they returned to their homelands in Abyei.
