The US special envoy called upon South Sudan and Sudan to get back to the negotiating table immediately and find permanent resolutions to the pending post-independence issues.
Princeton Lyman told SCR News that issues like the final status of Abyei, borders and financial arrangements for the oil sector are potential sources of conflict in case they remain unresolved. He called on both Juba and Khartoum governments to address these issues immediately with the African Union Panel’s assistance.
Mr. Lymann noted that it is possible for the two states to live as peaceful neighbours if both overcome mistrust and tensions and put in place institutions to handle crises when they surface.
Mr. Princeton made these comments after a series of meetings with government officials in Juba.
