Leaders of women groups and state directors of gender from all over South Sudan have started today a five-day capacity building workshop to enhance their participation in development projects.

Miriam Jato, UNFPA gender advisor, told SCR News that the workshop also includes men in order for them to be involved in development programmes including agriculture and health.

She added that the workshop will focus on how to help women get fully involved in day to day programmes in South Sudan.

Dr. Jato mentioned that the participants will be fully taught the concept of main streaming in policies and programmes together with the control of maternity rate in South Sudan since the new nation is one of the African countries with the highest maternity rate.

Dr. Jato called upon all ministries to involve women in all the programmes of the institutions.
