Teachers in Malakal, Upper Nile state, went without celebrating their international day on Wednesday.
October 5 is the World International Teachers Day, an occasion to promote international standards for the teaching profession.Bibak Gatkuoth, a teacher at Good Shepherd Basic and Secondary Schools, told Voice of Love FM that teachers in his school or elsewhere in Malakal have not celebrated their day.
He added that the date was not observed in the state because there was no any official information to teachers.
Paulino Albino Dak, a teacher at Malakal Vocational School, urged the ministry of education to make October 5 an important day for the teachers of South Sudan.
Ustaz Chuol Ismail said he was happy to celebrate the occasion asking the concerned authorities to inform teachers earlier next year to make a better celebration.
He asked that the day should be left off for teachers to rest.
The global theme for this year’s celebration was “Teachers for gender equality.”
