Chaos griped Wau on Tuesday as students staged a demonstration calling for change of leadership in Western Bahr el-Ghazal State.
Students said their demonstration was to voice out concern on the skyrocketing food prices in the state, Voice of Hope FM reported.Abraham Juliano, who studies at John Paul II Secondary School, said their demonstration was peaceful and meant to express their grievances to the authorities.
A student, who did not want to reveal his name, said he was send out of his class by gun shots, without knowing what was happening.
Students started to move on Tuesday at around 10 AM while security forces were already alerted..
They dispersed the students with tearga and shots into the air.
All Wau markets remained closed the whole day.
