The government of South Sudan decided to dismantle all the illegal check points, revenue collections and clearing agencies along the border with the neighbouring countries.

Eastern Equatoria state deputy governor said the border has been cleared of illegal tax collectors

Mr. Nartasio lamented that the entrance into South Sudan was congested with lots of illegal check points and clearing agents but all have been removed.

He said only five revenue collection institutions that include customs, immigration, taxation, state authority and commerce are allowed to operate. Others are outlawed.

This order came this month after a meeting convened with the economic cluster of the cabinet, chaired by vice-president Riak Machar Teny resolved to eliminate illegal tax collecting units from all border entries and check points in South Sudan.

Traders importing goods from Uganda have often complained of high level multiple-taxation in South Sudan-a move that has contributed to high prices of food and non-food commodities.

This month, a fact finding committee headed by the national minister of Energy, Stephen Dhieu reported that the presence of un-authorised check pointes has led to an artificial rise in the price of goods.
