The national interior minister described today the security situation in South Sudan as calm with a handful of small scale criminal activities among pastoralist communities.

Alison Manani Magaya told the press that voluntary disarmament has been taking place for the last two weeks in the states that experienced conflict in the recent months like Lakes, Warrap and Unity.

Mr. Manani said the Government plans to establish a permanent presence of auxiliary police in conflict states to maintain law and order after the army withdraws.

He added that the disarmament exercise is going well.

Mr. Manani confirmed that the Ugandan rebels of the LRA still linger in Western Bahr-el-Ghazal and Western Equatoria states although the SPLA remains active in those areas.
