The government of South Sudan has issued a ban on power saws to curb illegal cutting of natural forests in Central Equatoria.

Yei County Assistant Commissioner for Forestry Kennedy Alfred told Easter Radio that people are cutting too many trees and making charcoal instead of working on the fields.

Mr. Alfred said his office is honouring the order issued by Council of Ministers against the use of power saws to cut trees in the natural forests of Central Equatoria.

Mr. Kennedy said the police will patrol the forests and anyone carrying a power saw without a license will be punished.

Mr. Kennedy appealed to the community to consider the forests as very important reserves because they help the environment.
