The influx of returnees from Sudan through Juba River Port has greatly hindered other activities at the facility like handling goods.

Juba Port Director Zubeir Taban told SCR News that the facility has place for 18 barges but it is very congested with 27.

The barges were used by returnees to come from Kosti, in Sudan.

Mr. Taban said the river is packed with the garbage from Juba streets taken by heavy rains.

He added that the port has no facilities to handle oil from the barges.

Mr. Taban said the Japanese NGO JICA plans to expand the port with a new dock that will have better facilities.
