Lawmakers in Central Equatoria Assembly are divided over the suspension of the state Constitution by a decree from the governor.
Deputy Speaker Hastin Yokwe told SCR News that the Clement Wani Konga’s decree to suspend the state’s Constitution last month was received with mixed opinions.He said the parliament is discussing with the governor issues related with the constitutional vacuum in the state after the suspension.
Mr. Yokwe added that the governor allowed the temporary use of the National Transitional Constitution while the committee drafts the new Charter for Central Equatoria
The draft should be ready in two weeks.
Mr. Yokwe said when the new constitution is completed it will be sent to governor’s office for discussion.
The state assembly has to amend the final text and send it to the national ministry of Justice for certification to ensure conformity with National Transitional Constitution.
