Eastern Equatoria Parliament yesterday suspended the process to review the Transitional Constitution and amend it into the state Charter.

Speaker Ambrose Emmanuel Ocholimoi suspended the amendment and redrafting process, Emmanuel Radio reported.

He said the state Constitution should be reviewed by the whole state and not only by the House as it happened with the Interim Constitution in 2005.

Mr. Ocholimoi said that he constituted a 15-member committee to review the state constitution after consultation with Governor Louis Lobong Lojore.

The committee is made up of five ministers, five MPs and five representatives from the civil society including the churches.

The draft will be submitted to the cabinet to be forwarded to the parliament for approval into law.

Mr. Ocholimoi said that Central Equatoria and Jonglei states have taken similar steps to review and amend their own transitional constitutions.
