The US and South Sudan armies agreed yesterday to increase their military cooperation in order to upgrade the SPLA from a guerrilla movement to a national army.

SPLA spokesperson Phillip Aguer told SCR News that the two parties discussed how to establish and ensure mutual cooperation in terms of training.

Mr. Aguer said US officers are already training the SPLA.

He added the agreement is about how to develop existing cooperation.

Mr. Aguer explained that security is global issue.

He added that it is vital for the SPLA to cooperate with neighbouring armies, including the Sudan Armed Forces, to strengthen regional security.
