Prices have hiked so much in Tonj markets and shops that residents are having problems to buy the basic goods they need.
Abraham Dhil Akok is a member of Tonj South Youth Union. He told Don Bosco FM that traders from neighbouring countries increased commodities prices since the independence.He said even local products like dura and groundnuts are very expensive due to traders’ greed.
Mr. Dhil explained that the price of sugar doubled from one to two pounds a cup.
He said that market’s high prices are affecting especially people living in villages around Tonj.
He urged the government to control market prices.
He urged traders to lower prices in order to stop people from starving.
