The UN agency for gender equality and the empowerment of women has asked the Republic of South Sudan to recognize women’s rights at all levels.
Lucie Laguga, UNWOMEN country program director in South Sudan, made the appeal during a workshop conducted by South Sudanese women’s organizations in Juba, Bakhita Radio reported.She said her organization has the mandate to ensure that women in South Sudan have access to every opportunity and economic empowerment at all levels and to see that women’s rights are respected and recognized by the government.
The workshop studied women’s rights enshrined in the Transitional Constitution.
The event was attended by ministers, members of parliament, civil society’s representatives and heads of state women’s organizations.
