A number of Eastern Equatoria Assembly members risk losing their salaries because they have been absent from the House sittings without permission.

The warning came from speaker Ambrose Ocholimoi who cautioned absent MPs that they will face pay deductions if they do not attend the House’s sessions, Emmanuel Radio reported.

He added that the provision in included in the Parliamentary Business Code of Conduct.

He explained that the cuts will be introduced during this month.

The speaker’s action was a response to an absence without permission of ten MPs that led to lack of quorum for deliberations.

The House had scheduled yesterday a briefing from the Currency Exchange Committee Chairperson on its operations in the state, but the number of MPs was not enough for the sitting.

Mr. Ocholimoi postponed the sitting to Monday.
