Upper Nile University infrastructures are being renovated or built anew in preparation for the new academic year.
Job Akuei Alith, the University’s principal, told Saut Al Mahaba Radio that two laboratories, five lecture halls and some offices should be ready by the end of October to allow the institution to resume its academic activities.Mr. Akuei assured students that the university is preparing a better education environment and accommodation in the hostels.
He asked students not to feel abandoned because the country and the university are taking care of them.
Mr. Akuei said that the university will reopen when the ministry of higher education chooses.
He added that the faculty of Medicine which used to be in Khartoum will move to Wau while the other faculties will operate in Malakal and Renk campuses.
Mr. Akuei said that the institution faces lack of lecturers.
Eighty percent of lecturers were from the Sudan and have gone home South Sudan’s independence.
