Tonj conducted on Saturday evening its first beauty contest at Don Bosco Secondary School.

Ten girls were selected among the 76 candidates for the prettiest girl in Tonj, Don Bosco FM reported.

Eight finalists turned up for the final show. The other two could not take part in the show due to family issues.

Three Ugandan and two Sudanese judges elected Rachel Nyibol Madoor as Miss Tonj 2011 taking into account walking style, standing, height and natural beauty.

Ms. Nyibol urged the girls to be respectful, take care of their bodies and try again next year.

Miss Tonj added that now she can compete anywhere in South Sudan and Africa.

She asked girls not to bleach their skins.

More than 900 people attended the beauty contest held at the school compound.

The pageantry was organized by the Youth Union.

Tonj South County Commissioner Akec Tong praised the association for organizing the event.

He added that his administration wants to construct a theatre within one year to host public events in Tonj.

Youth Union Secretary Mabior Achien thanked the Ugandan judges for having spared their time for the event.

He added the Ugandan judges showed a very wonderful event for the first time.
