The students of Tonj secondary school cleaned the grave of late William Deng Nhial yesterday in preparations for the independence celebrations.

The idea came from the school administration that wrote to the County Commission requesting whether they could clean the burial site.

Headmaster John Deng said the staff and the students were cleaning together around the grave of Late Nhial and then they would move to other areas in the town.

Mr. Deng explained that Mr. Nhial started the Anyanya One movement and his grave could not be left dirty as he was killed fighting for the freedom of South Sudan.

Student Elizabeth Abuk on her part said the cleaning of the site is a display of love for the memory of Mr. Nhial.

She added that the late hero wanted the independence of South Sudan and his grave should be clean before it happened on July 9.

Ms. Abuk appealed to all students to prepare for the proclamation of independence.

She urged them to remember all those who suffered for the independence of South Sudan.

Tonj secondary students conclude their clean-up operation on Friday.
