The state government of Eastern Equatoria has received about 100 children who had been surviving miserably on the streets of Juba.

Jane Surur, the vice chairperson for Women Association of Eastern Equatoria, said the street children were accommodated at the way station in Torit Technical Institute.

Ms. Surur said street children needed protection like the internally displaced persons and refugees.

She stressed that although security situation in Eastern Equatoria state improved, the absence of war did not mean peace because the street children and other citizens were troubled by nature.

Ms. Surur said street children were vulnerable, in need of protection and care and she urged the UN agencies to assist them.

She emphasizes that street children could enrich the state with their diverse cultures, skills and creativity.
