Rumbek public health office has launched a seven-day campaign to clean up the town and its environs in preparation for the celebration of Independence on July 9.

Senior Inspector of Public Health Makur Ater Akuony told Good News Radio that the campaign aims at keeping the environment clean by collecting litter.

He appealed to the public to get involved in the cleanup campaign by collecting rubbish around their homesteads.

He warned that those who did not comply could be fined of up to 300 Sudanese Pounds.

He said that every household should have its own pit latrine in place.

Mr. Makur explained that his office has hired 100 individuals to clean what he called government areas at a cost of 15 Sudanese Pounds per person per day.

He added that the cleaning of homesteads is the responsibility of each family.

He reiterated that those who did not cooperate in the cleaning campaign would face the law.

Rumbek is getting ready to welcome the independence with clean looks.
