A Catholic association called Solidarity with Southern Sudan (SSS) opened a teachers’ training college in Malakal.
Ninet de Costa, a Salesian nun from India, told Voice of Love FM that SSS was invited by the catholic bishops’ conference to come and work in the development of South Sudan.She added that the group constituted by male and female religious from different congregations works on pastoral, health and education fields.
She explained that the teachers training college in Malakal is part of this work.
Sr. Ninet said that the Malakal College has two programs: in-service program which takes only primary school teachers and the pre-service program.
The in-service programme lasts for four years and runs during school holidays while the pre-service is a normal two-year diploma course open to students who completed their secondary studies.
SSS runs another Teachers Training College in Yambio and a nursing school in Wau.
The in-service programme is taking place in several elementary schools including Leer, in Unity State, Gumbo in Central Equatoria and Nzara and Rimenze in Western Equatoria.
