Lakes Ministry of Education completed a training on Life Skills for teachers in the eight counties of the state.
Adunymarial Makur Mabeny, Senior Inspector for Girls’ Education, a department of the Directorate of Gender in the Ministry of Education, told Good News Radio that the Unicef-sponsored training focused on equipping 320 teachers with basic life skills.He added that the training took place in each of the eight counties of the State since May and concluded last Saturday.
He added that Life Skills will be one of the subjects to be taught in schools in the new curriculum.
Mr. Adunymarial explained that the training covered various areas, including HIV and AIDS, hygiene and sanitation, cultural values, marriage education, and the way teachers should present themselves in the school.
He added that women attended the workshop because they play a great role to keep the family healthy.
Mr. Adunymarial added that the State Education Ministry will organize a monitoring and evaluation program to see if the teachers involved in the life skills program are implementing knowledge acquired during the training.
He urged members of the public, government and missionaries to join hands and promote girls’ education.
