The Catholic bishop of Tombura-Yambio has testified before the USA Congress subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights.
Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala spoke about the role of the Catholic Church in responding to needs, alleviating human suffering, and providing hope to millions of Sudanese people.He said the Church in Sudan urges the United States Government to stop the current violence in Abyei and Nuba Mountains in Southern Kordafan, protect the civilian and provide for their needs as soon as possible.
Bishop Hiiboro asked the US administration to urge the UN to continue support for peace keeping missions in Sudan and South Sudan with adequate funding, appropriate logistical support, and a sufficient mandate to provide civil protection.
He asked the US to contribute technical and financial assistance to programs that promote peace building, community reconciliation, and conflict early warning systems.
