High anxiety raised among the local staff at Mother of Mercy hospital in Gidel as their expatriate colleagues were evacuated earlier in the week due to deterioration of security in Nuba Mountains.

A lab technician told Voice of Peace reporter that she was deeply concerned about the departure of her colleagues.

She added that the local staff felt abandoned.

However, Abounja Ali Shamila, a male worker at the lab, who deals mostly with the examinations department, said he feels spirited and determined.

He added that the local staff takes inspiration to continue with the work in collaboration with the Medical Director and the Comboni Sisters who decided to remain with them.

He explained that as long as there are drugs the hospital can proceed.
