Render cash, a disease that affects cows, has been eradicated in the whole world and it is not present in South Sudan.
The Director General of Veterinary Services in GoSS ministry of animal resources and fisheries Agol Malak Kwai told the press today in Juba that South Sudan was certified free form render cash in 2008 and the massive vaccination of cows started in 1998.He added that many organisms spearheaded the campaign against render cash cow disease, including the Red Cross, Unicef and FAO.
Dr. Malak said after independence some cattle diseases will be handled by the authorities in South Sudan while more serious illnesses like foot and mouth will be handled by the East African community.
Dr. Malak said the process of eradicating certain diseases is very expensive.
He added that South Sudan will prioritise major diseases first.
