A tax official has denied categorically that high taxes were behind food commodity and fuel hiking prices in Juba.
The Head of Tax Collection Unit at GoSS, Nelson Dhan, told Bakhita Radio that the department was blamed for persistent rise in prices in South Sudan’s capital. He said the high prices were due to poor roads, illegal taxes collection and transportation.
Mr. Dhan revealed that the government is sending committees to states and counties to address the issues of road blocks and unauthorized tax collection.
He said some security personnel use road blocks to collect money illegally and traders increase their prices on final consumers.
