The South Sudan Legislative Assembly has conducted a two-day encounter with the public to receive comments and questions on the Transitional Constitution of South Sudan 2011.

The first session, chaired by Joy Kwaje, gathered views and comments on the Bill of Rights and the commissions.

Over one hundred people were present and over thirty presented their views as representative of interested organizations or as individual citizens.

Concerns were raised about ownership of land, the rights of children and people with disabilities.

A citizen, Auyen Akuot Atem, remarked that that the public did not have easy access to the draft Constitution and that most people outside Juba might not even be aware of the forum.

The forum was commended for the openness and focus on the contributions. It continued yesterday with a session on the legislature and the executive.
