KAJO KEJI RETURNEES ACCUSED OF WITCHCRAFT

There is serious witchcraft accusations labelled against returnees in Kajo Keji County.

University researcher Leben Lomoro raid yesterday that many returnees from Uganda were expelled from the communities and sometimes even beaten and killed by mobs due to allegations that they were witches or poison masters.

He said some returnees had to leave Uganda because they were labelled witches and back home they faced similar accusations of learning the arts and knowledge of witchcraft abroad.

Dr. Leben added that local people in Kajo Keji linked the witchcraft to refugees in Uganda.

He said some locals felt threatened and took the law into their own hand by killing and evicting those returnees suspect of witchcraft or using poison.

Dr. Leben said witchcraft accusations increase in times of crisis.

He made these statements while presenting the topic Witchcraft, War and Returnees during a public lecture on Culture and the Nation at the University of Juba.
