The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement said the seizure of Abyei and the displacement of its population amountes to political adultery.

SPLM Secretary for Political Affairs Antipas Nyok told the press this morning in Juba that the NCP committed a historical sin by displacing the people of Abyei area.

He described the occupation of Abyei as legal and political adultery.

The SPLM official said President Omar al-Bashir should face the Sharia law for crimes against Islam on top of the International Criminal Court’s indictment.

Mr. Nyok called on the international community not to allow the NCP to blackmail Sudanese, Africans and the world at large with their acts.

He added that the international community had the right to defend the Comprehensive Peace Agreement because it is among the signatories to the document.

Mr. Nyok appealed to South Sudanese to remain calm and keep the same spirit of determination to protect their people and land.

He compared the Khartoum regime to a chicken that eats its own eggs.

Mr. Nyok accused the NCP of seizing Abyei with the aim of pre-emptying the UN Security Council’s visit to the area.

A UN delegation was scheduled to visit Abyei yesterday but the trip was cancelled due to the current insecurity situation in the area.

Today the UN delegation was in Juba to meet South Sudan leadership.
