The head of South Sudan Human Rights Commission has condemned the use of children as sources of generating income for their families.

Lawrence Gurbandy told a group of journalists yesterday in Juba that children under 18 have to work in rural areas to learn how to survive, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said that in towns the situation was different and children should be sent to school instead of doing casual work to earn a living.

Mr. Gurbandy advised citizens to respect and practice the laws that protect children in South Sudan.

The human rights chief was answering questions about children querying stones in Jebel Kujur.
