Rumbek is experiencing diesel shortages with virtually all refuelling stations running short of the commodity.

Fuel stations in Rumbek are short of diesel since Sunday afternoon.

Most managers visited by Good News Radio explaining that the border between the North and South Sudan has been closed indefinitely.

On Monday morning, only one station had some diesel and was selling it at five Pounds per litre, an almost 70-percent overnight increase.

John Marol Magune, who manages Dove Fuel Station, said the diesel stock will last a day or two.

He added he hoped the road from Khartoum would reopen soon.

Supplies and prices of petrol, however, remained stable in Rumbek.

Lakes State government officials, including the State Governor, did not want to comment on the diesel shortage.

Yirol, some 110 kilometres East of Rumbek, had some stock of diesel on Monday and it was selling at 3.5 Pounds per litre.

There are reports that negotiations are underway to get fuel supplies and other essential commodities into South Sudan from East Africa.
