The European Union urged the governments of Khartoum and Juba to negotiate peaceful solutions for the pending issues.

EU Development Commissioner Andris Piebalg told journalists in Juba that the NCP and the SPLM should redouble efforts to solve post referendum arrangements and CPA pending issues peacefully.

He urged Khartoum and Juba to speed up negotiations and avoid any act of violence.

Mr. Piebalg said the EU was a strong supporter of the CPA and will maintain an impartial approach towards South and North Sudan based on their respective needs.

He added that the two states are critically linked both by success or failure.

The EU Commissioner pointed out that it was important to advance the viability of the two states of the North and the South Sudan.

Mr. Piebalg made these statements in Juba on Friday evening at the end of his two-day visit to South Sudan.
