Central Equatoria commemorated today the twenty eighth anniversary of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army’s foundation.
Hundreds took part in feast at Nyakuron Cultural Centre, in Juba.Addressing the press, SPLM Secretary for Culture and Information Bol Makueng said battalions 104 and 105 led by William Nyuan Ben and Kerbino Kyuanyin Bol respectively formed the nucleus of the SPLA.
He explained that the two battalions were the first to wage war against the Khartoum government followed by consecutive rebellions across the country.
Mr. Makueng said the celebration was important because the SPLA brought the independence of South Sudan and democratic change to the whole country.
He added that the day is an also occasion to honour the people killed in the conflict that lasted more than two decades.
The occasion was marked by many speeches from the SPLA officers and government dignitaries, together with performances from traditional dances and local musicians.
