The Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference called on all the citizens, politicians, security forces and leaders of North and South Sudan to respect human life and dignity as the south heads for its independence in July.
This statement was made in the final communiqu√Ö¬Ω of the bishops after their week-long extraordinary plenary assembly in Juba.The bishops called for patience, understanding and restraint adding that those in authority must act justly, and foster openness and participation in spirit and action.
The bishops also urged citizens to recognize that great changes are not completed overnight adding that there is a process which may not always meet immediate expectations.
The Bishops expressed concern about the inclusivity and transparency of the constitutional review process.
They also mentioned that conflict in Darfur and increasing violence in the South, including the activities of the Lord’s Resistance Army, must be addressed as soon as possible.
