The UN Security Council has called upon Khartoum to stop destabilizing South Sudan by supporting militia groups fighting against the government of Juba.

GoSS Peace Minister Pagan Amum Akech told journalists this morning that the UN council called on both parties to focus on post-referendum issues and make a deal before July 9.

He added that the parties were also encouraged to find a solution for the impasse on Abyei and border demarcation.

Mr. Amum made these comments at Juba International Airport upon his arrival from the UN meeting in the USA.

The meeting was called after some leaked documents implicated the NCP for destabilizing the south.

Mr. Amum said SPLM was satisfied by the Council’s response to their request for the meeting.

The meeting was chaired by China and attended by representatives from both governments of Juba and Khartoum.
